As the founder himself put it, the system isn’t just a collection of exercises, but rather, a series of techniques that were refined and developed over decades, and finally organized into a cohesive plan of action.

Take some time, before you start, to read up on the system a little more. The workout videos will show you all the steps, but it can do you a lot of good to actually know what the system is all about, how to get the most out of it, and what its goals really are. Remember, it’s to train your body and your mind, so consider a walk to the library a nice warm up for both.

It should be noted, however, that not all pilates instructors know what they’re talking about. There’s no real board of review, as with the Martial Arts Council, so not everyone teaching the system is truly qualified. The best way to make sure your pilates workout video is on the level is simply to check out some user reviews. This way you can see what others have to say about the courses shown in the video. And of course, what it really comes down to is what sort of results you can expect, and you won’t be able to figure that out without reading a few user reviews of the video in question.
