Temporary And Permanent Removal Of Body Hair

These days, a woman can’t just raise her hands without making sure her underarm is hairless. Smiling isn’t enough as well, she also has to get rid of any shade of whiskers on her upper lip. And if you think she dons sleeveless blouse and mini shorts on her carefree days, think once more. Most likely, she didn’t wake up and simply put on those clothes right away. She still had to shave or wax her arms and legs.

While hair removal is a typical female thing, there are guys who also exercise the same. There are those who feel that getting rid of excess facial and body hair makes them more appealing to women. Some take off excess hair because they think it is more hygienic and comfortable.

Removing unwanted hair is a practice that goes back in the old times. What benefits or cosmetic purposes they got in hair removal then is still true now.

Those who want to remove unwanted facial and body hairs can choose either to depilate or epilate. Depilating is the removal of the hair from above the skin surface, while epilating is getting rid of the entire hair from root to tip.

Depilating techniques include trimming the hair, applying chemical creams that break the hair bonds, shaving it, and buffing them. Common epilating methods include waxing, sugaring, plucking, and threading. And while these techniques are admittedly more painful, hair will take longer to grow back.

There are also permanent ways of removing and reducing hair. The first is electrolysis, the process of taking the hair off by applying electricity to a solid hair-thin metal probe slid into each hair follicle. This does localized damage to the parts that generate hair, thus permanently removing hair.

Permanent hair reduction methods include the popular laser and IPL. Laser hair removal uses laser to damage follicles, making it incapable to generate hair. IPL, or Intense Pulsed Light, uses light of several wavelengths to get rid of hair. It is also used to cure different skin conditions, such as hyperpigmentation.

The aforementioned methods vary on effectiveness, cost, convenience in using, length of time the hair grows back, and other factors. Whatever technique you prefer, always practice caution as each one has its own advantages and disadvantages.
